The New York Comedy Festival is back and this year is the biggest yet. Chock full of some of the biggest names in comedy, the Festival lets comedy fans come together for a celebration of comedy that only comes around once a year.
The eight annual NY Comedy Festival features some of the biggest names in the biz, names like Louis C.K., Ricky Gervais, Norm MacDonald, Sarah Silverman and many, many more. In fact more than 150 comedians will be performing during the festival. The New York Comedy Festival is taking place from November 9 – 13 at venues across New York City, and there is still time to buy tickets. Venues hosting the festival include the Beacon Theater, Carolines on Broadway, Carnegie Hall, the 92nd Street Y and the Brooklyn Academy of Music, which is being used by the NY Comedy Festival for the first time. Tickets went on sale August 15, but if you missed the official on sales you can still buy tickets at places like Stub Hub and Ticket Liquidator.
The NY Comedy Festival was brought to life by Caroline Hirsch, the proprietor of the iconic Caroline’s on Broadway and a legend in comedy. Hirsch says part of the aim of the festival is to get young comedians focused on comedy in New York City rather than LA. “I know Los Angeles is kind of where TV is made, but it’s made here also, and it’s made here a lot,” she told Variety.
Highlights of the NY Comedy Festival include:
- Louis C.K. – Riding high on the success of his hit TV show, Louis C.K. has become the de-facto funniest comedian alive
- Ricky Gervais – The British comedian brings his outrageous style to Gotham
- Bill Maher – The always politically incorrect Maher surely has some observations regarding political happenings
- Norm Macdonald – Among the funniest men on the planet, you can witness the deadpan hilarity that is Norm MacDonald live
- Russell Peters – Perhaps the most popular touring comedian, Peters has been selling out stadiums across the planet for several years now
- Sarah Silverman – Star of her eponymous show, Sarah Silverman delivers twisted comedy wrapped in a bubble wrapped Barbie doll face
- Wanda Sykes – The always-outrageous Sykes is gonna have people rolling on the floor once again
But while the big names might get all the headlines, they aren’t the only funny people around. There will be more that 150 comedians performing at the festival, so there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy some up-and-coming comedians.
